If you’ve been impressed with the care you’ve been given by a nurse, midwife or health visitor, make sure you nominate them for this award. Ed
Has a nurse, midwife, health visitor or healthcare assistant made a real difference to you or a loved one? Now you can say a big ‘thank you’ by nominating them for a unique Nursing Standard award.
Nursing Standard, which is a specialist Nursing Journal, has launched the national Patient’s Choice Award 2011 which provides the public with a very special opportunity to highlight and reward outstanding practice within the nursing profession.
Not just public nominations
Alongside appealing directly to the public, Nursing Standard is urging every organisation – whether in the NHS, the community or the independent sector – to tell their patients about this award, encouraging them to nominate those nurses who have gone the extra mile.
Carol Alstrom, NHS Isle of Wight Chief Nurse and Director of Infection Prevention and Control, said: “This is an opportunity for the public to nominate a person who has made a real difference, someone who has gone above and beyond in providing outstanding care and support to them or their family. It could be care received in the community, at Earl Mountbatten Hospice or at St. Mary’s Hospital. This is a great way to highlight the high standard of nursing care provided on the Island.”
Recognise those who make a difference
Liz Arnold, Director of Nursing and Education at Earl Mountbatten Hospice, said: “Delivering the best possible care to patients lies at the heart of all areas of nursing. This award gives patients the chance to recognize and reward individuals who have demonstrated exceptional patient care. It is a unique opportunity to celebrate excellence in nursing on the Isle of Wight.”
How it works
To nominate a nurse, midwife, health visitor or healthcare assistant, members of the public can visit Patients Choice Website or call 020 8423 1066 to request an entry form.
The closing date for nominations is 21 January 2011.
After voting closes, an expert panel of judges will select three finalists. Members of the public will then be invited to vote for the nurse who they believe most deserves the accolade.
The winner will receive their award – including a prize of £1,000 – at a prestigious ceremony, held in London on 28 April 2011.
