The TDA have also reappointed Charles Rogers for a period of two years and extended the appointment of Danny Fisher for six months.

The recruitment of a new Chairman will commence once the purdah period for the General Election comes to an end.

Jessamy Baird
The Trusts third designate Non-Executive Director, who joined the Trust in January 2014, Jessamy Baird, has now been appointed to into the full Non-Executive Director role left vacant with the retirement of Sue Wadsworth.

The appointment takes effect from 1st April 2015 and runs to 31st March 2017.

Jessamy is Director, Market Access for Sanofi, a global integrated healthcare leader in pharmaceuticals, focused on patients’ needs. She has previously held Executive and Non-Executive positions in NHS Trusts as well as undertaking research into public health, general practice and health economics at a number of Universities. She lives in Whitchurch, Hampshire.

Commenting on her appointment Jessamy said:

“I have had a long term and deep interest in people who receive Community and Mental Health care and the pivotal role that ‘out of hospital’ care now plays in any health system. My career, whether in the public or private sector, has been focused on healthcare. Since joining the Trust in January 2014 I have enjoyed working with Trust staff and stakeholders. I believe I bring multiple perspectives to the Non-Executive Director role and look forward to continuing to work for the benefit of Island healthcare.”

Charles Rogers
The Trust Development Authority have also re-appointed Bembridge resident Charles Rogers as a Non-Executive Director for a period of two years from 29th July 2015 to 28th July 2017 and brings 25 years management experience to the local NHS and has particular skills and experience in operational management, strategic planning and change management.

Following an early sea-going career in the marine industry, Mr Rogers progressed into management with BT (Marine) Ltd and Cable & Wireless, becoming Director of Cable & Wireless Plc’s operations in China. On returning to the Island he became Chief Executive and Commissioner of Yarmouth Harbour. He was a co-opted non-political member of the Isle of Wight Council’s Scrutiny Committee from 2007 to 2009.

Between 2008 and 2013 Charles was a Non-Executive Director of Isle of Wight NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT) working with the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth (SHIP) PCT Cluster Board for the last two years until PCTs were abolished on 1st April 2013. He was appointed to the Board of Isle of Wight NHS Trust on 29th July 2013

Charles said:

“The NHS a vital service for all of us. It is highly regarded and valued by people on the Island and is our largest employer. It has a crucial role to play and although it performs extremely well there is a very challenging agenda ahead and there is always room for improvement. I look forward to continuing to play my part in that.”

Danny Fisher
Chairman of the Trust, Danny Fisher recently announced that after eight years as Chairman of the Trust and the predecessor Primary Care Trust he would be standing down. Appointments to the post are made by the Trust Development Authority (TDA) and to provide time for the recruitment of a new Chairman Mr Fisher’s appointment has been extended by the TDA for 6 months to 30th September 2015.

The Chairman of Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Danny Fisher, said:

“I am delighted that Charles and Jessamy have been re-appointed to the NHS Trust as Non-Executive Directors. I am sure that they will continue to make a big contribution to the work of the Board. Speaking about his own position Danny said “I too am happy to serve for a further 6 months to provide time for the recruitment of my successor. After eight years it is time for a fresh pair of eyes to lead the Board of one of the best health services in the country.

“Speaking about the role of Non Executive Directors Danny says: Non-Executives in the NHS bring a different perspective and insight, together with essential skills developed outside the NHS. That has been very valuable in the past and I am sure will continue to be so. The appointment of Designate Non-Executive Directors enabled us to bring in additional expertise and I hope the Board is able to make similar appointments in future.”

Background to Non-Executive Appointments
All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Both appointees have declared no political activity. The appointments have been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice. The Non-Executive positions attract remuneration of £6,157 per annum whilst the remuneration of Chairmen is higher.
