Open Studios: Uncover the hidden gems of Isle of Wight’s art scene this summer

This week sees the return of Isle of Wight Open Studios, taking place over a whopping 17 days from Friday 23rd August to Sunday 8th September 2024.

More than 120 artists and craftspeople will be opening their studio doors to the public at some point during the 17 days (some for the entire period).

Binnel Studios
Over the Bank Holiday weekend (24th-26th August) Binnel Studios will be welcoming members of the public to explore the studios of seven talented artists, Molly Attrill; Matthew Chambers; Jane Cox; Sue Paraskeva; Sadie Tierney; Amanda Wheeler and Celia Wilkinson.

The Studios are tucked away on the stunning St Lawrence coastline, will be open from 11am to 4pm each day.

Charlotte Hodge-Thomas
Charlotte Hodge-Thomas will be transforming her home studio and ground floor living space into an exhibition/gallery for the Open Studios event – to showcase her very large collection of original paintings, limited edition prints and art cards: There are three rooms to browse!

Charlotte Hodge-Thomas’s home studio at 24 Walls Road, Bembridge, PO35 5RD will be open to visitors between 11am and 5pm on 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 30th, 31st August and 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th September.

Island CraftWorks 
Visitors to Island CraftWorks in Ryde can learn how to create beautiful Paper Flower and Feather Fascinators at no cost. This special workshop provides a fantastic opportunity for those looking to try their hand at crafting, with guidance from experienced artisans.

Visitors can drop by Monday to Friday between 12pm and 3pm, on Saturdays from 12pm to 4pm, and on Sundays from 12pm to 3pm.

Caroline Underwood
The well-respected Isle of Wight artist, Caroline Underwood, will also be opening her Carisbrooke studio to the public as part of the upcoming Isle of Wight Open Studios 2024 event.

The event offers a unique opportunity to view Caroline’s black and white paintings, drawings, prints, and installations, which are deeply inspired by the sea, sky, and landscape of the Isle of Wight.

You can visit Caroline’s studio, 35 Carisbrooke High Street, Newport PO30 1NR, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 11am to 5pm.
