Dan Morgan took both overall and class five honours during the Isle of Wight Car Club’s visit to St George’s Park on the first Saturday of June, behind the wheel of his ‘Sub Zero’ kit car.
The course on the day used the relatively small space available to full effect – unfortunately, this made for a very complicated course which was very tough to remember. In fact, only 13 out of 35 drivers remembered the layout during the first runs!
Early benchmark
Morgan set the benchmark early on, setting his winning time of 53.46 seconds during run two. Steve Wells also looked promising in the early going, achieving a 53.84 on the second run; alas, he only improved by one tenth during the day in the Locost he shares with Ryan Munt, who finished third.
David Goodwin was fourth overall, while also taking Class Three victory in his highly modified Mini. Ricky Sheppard rounded out the overall top five, debuting his own Locost – expect him to emerge as a top contender as he acclimatises to the new vehicle.
Class Four honours for Toby
Toby Allen took Class Four honours in his Lotus Elise, while Wayne Hole was top of the pile in Class Two. Jill Broomfield was the fastest lady of the day in her Class Four Volkswagen Golf, and despite playing down her chances of getting the course right before the first runs, she was one of only two drivers to finish the day with no wrong tests and no time penalties.
