Martin Swan, Sarah Talbot and Sally Woodford return to Quarr Abbey this week for their highly popular Summer Exhibition.
This is the third year they have exhibited together at the Abbey, attracting record number of visitors to last summer’s exhibition. The exhibition includes paintings by Martin Swan and Sarah Talbot with ceramics by Sally Woodford and textile works by Melanie Swan
Martin will be showing oil paintings and watercolours including his popular and collectable landscapes and marine paintings.
Captivated by the pigs at Quarr
He will also unveil his new venture, pigs! “I was captivated by the pigs at Quarr when we exhibited at the Abbey before and this started an exciting new series of paintings which I’m showing at our Summer Exhibition this week.”
Sarah has lived in Fishbourne now for 24 years and continues to be inspired by her surroundings. The countryside, rural views, the Abbey and beauty of the local coastline all feature in her work. Her detailed oil paintings aim to give a sense of the beauty and tranquillity of the familiar scenes. This exhibition also includes several of her more recent portraits.
Experimenting with combinations of clays and firing techniques, which involve Earthenware, Raku and smoke firing, Sally produces wall pieces and sculptural forms which range from 10cm to 175cm in size. Using hand building allows each piece to slowly develop its own character, to become individual, while still retaining evidence of the maker.
The exhibition also includes some of Melanie’s marbled silks and other textile works. The Summer Exhibition is open to the public from Thursday 21st until Tuesday 26th; opening times are 10-4:30 pm.
