Anyone who is a regular reader will know that here at VB, we’re big fans of Isle of Wight singer/songwriter, Paul Armfield.
This month sees the launch of his fourth album, Tennyson, on which he sings and plays (nearly) all the instruments, with the lyrics by 19th century poet laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson.
To celebrate the launch of the album, Paul will be performing at Farringford, the former home of Tennyson on 18th September at 8pm.
It’s a great venue for intimate music events, the one with Patti Smith last year was exceptional.
Tennyson on Tennyson
To whet you appetite, Paul has put a couple of tracks up on SoundCloud, one of which includes the voice of Tennyson himself, as captured on wax cylinder by Edison reading Charge of the Light Brigade.
Paul’s been described by Gavin Martin in the Mirror as ‘The Heir apparent to deathless troubadours such as Tim Hardin’, whilst James Delingpole in the Telegraph compared him to Cat Stevens and Lambchop!
As for the Germans, who Paul regularly performs to on tour, they’ve given him a genre all of his own, folk noir.
Very fitting and well deserved, we feel!
