PCaSO Gives New Bladder Scanner To St Mary’s

PCaSO Gives New Bladder Scanner To St Mary'sSt Mary’s Hospital has been in touch to tell us about a new bladder scanner that’s been presented to the Island for use at St Mary’s.

It’s been generously donated by the Southampton branch of the PCaSO – Prostate Cancer Network at a cost of over £6,000.

Mr Makunde, Urology Consultant at St Mary’s Hospital, who will be the main user of the equipment, said, “With the ageing population on the Island, problems like urinary infection and prostate cancer are increasing. This particular scanner will facilitate all stages of patient care in the Urology Department and we are very grateful to PCaSO for this extremely generous donation.”

The generous support of PCaSO came about following a speech by Mr. Makunde at a regional PCaSO meeting last year.

We spoke to Mike Hollingworth, Chairman of PCaSO Southampton about their generous support, “It was great to see how pleased Mr Makunde was with the equipment. It’s very portable – the smallest scanner around – meaning that it can not only be carried around to the wards, but also used in the operating theatre.

“Using the monitor, which looks like a ball on lolly stick connected to a laptop, is very useful when inserting a catheter.”
