An awards ceremony taking place this Thursday (21st December) celebrating budding filmmakers on the Isle of Wight, will also be followed by a screening of Corman’s World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel.
Picture the Music is a collaboration between Ventnor Exchange, Brave Island, Ventnor Arts Club and Ventnor Film Society. The competition was open to all ages, but those aged 25 and under qualified for a monetary prize worth up to £850.
The task
To enter, filmmakers were tasked with making a music video to one of five pre-selected tracks from Isle of Wight bands.
Previous winners, Jack Millward and Tom Kral — collectively known as Double or Nothing Productions — went on to be nominated for a Mobo Award for directing, filming and editing a video for rapper Headie One’s ‘Can’t Be Us’.
Ventnor Arts Club will be screening the 2023 finalists’ videos, announcing the winners and presenting prizes.
The Peter Cramp Awards
The Awards commemorate one of the coolest characters in Ventnor, Peter Cramp, who came to the Island after an illustrious career in London.
He co-founded Ventnor Film Society, so the Awards will be a fitting memorial to someone who loved independent film, wanted others to share in his passion for it and made it happen.
Corman’s World
The awards will be followed by a screening of a very appropriate film about one of the world’s great filmmakers, whose budget-conscious approach led to a cult following and the launch of many massive stars.
In Corman’s World, some of those movie legends tell their stories of filming with Corman with humour and grateful emotion.
Where and when
Picture the Music and the screening of Corman’s World takes place on Thursday 21st December 2023 at Ventnor Arts Club, 13 High Street, Ventnor PO38 1NT.
