……. and who is the incumbent of the Chair? Oh yes! That lady who holds her seat by 7 votes (or 0.6% of the local electorate). At least, it is not somebody who recently changed political allegiance. Orwell famously commented “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”. Of course he was referring to a Communist state presided over by a dictator and… Read more »

To be fair, Roger, always a bit chippy is now at an advanced age. I think it common for elderly gentlemen to become a little more testy and cantankerous when forced to sit for long periods.

I find myself in agreement with Madam Chairman. There’s a very old saying that if you can’t take it don’t dish it out. I don’t know any of the protagonists and I didn’t vote Conservative in 2009. However if I were a Tory Councillor I might have found Councillor Bacon’s comments offensive. All it seems to me that has happened here is that Mazillus returned Bacon’s shot… Read more »

What a biased lot we’ve got dictating to us! A chairperson with such a slender majority that she is totally unrepresentative of the electorate of her ward.I understood that the chairperson of the council was supposed to be unbiased? I take it in the present incubent’s case- if its a Conservative member he’s right and everyone else is wrong?

BEACH HUTS There’s more than a whiff of Conservative Central Office (or whatever it’s called these days) being behind the idea for the Isle of Wight Council to use part of its budget underspend on building beach huts in addition to a ‘Celebration of the Isle of Wight’ festival. Nothing wrong with that that but the impression has been given that it was an idea dreamt up… Read more »

Take a trip down Sandown seafront to see Lego-like beach huts being constructed as we speak.

When they talk about an Island festival, I wonder what exactly they have in mind. On Solent radio yesterday, when asked if the council might subsidise the pop festival, Mr Love replied ‘not at the moment.’ Does this mean they could in future?

No….. just an example of “Bever say ‘never’ in politics!” :-))

As soon as the Council talk about subsidising the festival, it will be the time it is petitioned for discussion in parliment and a rerun of the iow act banning them again…. as soon as that happens the better.
