Plans for the layout of the flats

Plans submitted for new flats in East Cowes’ vacant commercial premises

An empty commercial premises in the heart of an Isle of Wight coastal town could be converted into two new flats.

Mr M. Croll applied to County Hall for planning permission to turn the ground floor of 25 – 27 Castle Street in East Cowes, a property formerly home to the Valu 4 U gift shop, into two two-bedroom apartments.

The proposed units would have a bathroom, kitchen, hallway and lounge.

A Planning Statement submitted as part of Mr Croll’s application said.

“The site is currently vacant and has been on the market for some time. The ground floor is suitable to convert into two self-contained flats, being conveniently located in the heart of East Cowes.

“This will add to the residential stock of the area. The site is controlled by the applicant so there is no impediment to developing the site.

“The proposal will generate additional activity resulting in potentially more employment on the Island.”

Highways service provider Island Roads made no objection to the proposal.
