Plastic Mermaids pull another cracker out of the bag with new single, Saturn

Following on yesterday’s news about another of our favourite Isle of Wight bands, CHAMPS, today we have exciting news from the brilliant Plastic Mermaids.

This five-piece band from the Island have just released their latest masterpiece. If you’ve seen the band live you’ll recognise this track.

‘Saturn’ is fabulous smorgasbord of choral sopranos, interstellar synths, indie-pop, calypso and thumb-thumping funky bass.

If this doesn’t track get your toes tapping and your head popping like a funky chicken, we’re not sure what will. Pop over to The Line of Best Fit to listen to the track.

Inhale The Universe
The track is the first release from their upcoming EP Inhale The Universe.

Saturn is released by our lovely friends over at Cross Key Records on 15th December and will make a superb Christmas present for fans of the band (hint, hint).

Inspiration for the track
Doug explained the origins of the track to The Line of Best Fit,

“Saturn was inspired by my dreams about a field near where I grew up. The dreams always featured ghosts and I often thought if i went to that field by myself in the middle of the night i might be able to see the people I’ve known who have died. But then what if they weren’t there? The song is about whether it’s nicer to live with a possibility than it is to discover something isn’t real.”

18 musicians play on the track
He went on to explain the sheer number of people involved with the track,

“There are so many people playing on the track, 18 I think ! It was tricky to record, only about 20% of what we recorded made it onto the final mix. The hard part was ditching parts you’ve spent days working on. But you just have to remember that no-one else cares how long you’ve spent on it, they’re only interested in what it sounds like!”

We reckon the results are well worth the time spent. This is sure-fire winner.

playing politics with any situation like this is not on. so why is Turner issuing press releases instead of just rising above the issue? more to the point, why did Turner vote against military action against a government which is killing its own people?

Personally, I think AT and other Tory and LibDem rebels have taken the sensible option by not voting to drag us into yet another conflict which as a virtually bankrupt country with a lame excuse for an Army and Navy, is ill equipped to deal with the consequences of such actions. Horrendous as the situation in Syria is, we have not even had the UN inspectors’ reports,… Read more »

“Andrew Turner has behaved honourably, and I suspect is reflecting the views of the majority!”

Good Lord, is he standing again in 2015?

I do not think so. Off to the House of Nod mi thinks! One day chemical warfare will be used on a wide scale. The USA will not allow it to be used on Israel, so we will be back to square one. The ‘Great’ has gone out of Britain, about time. We called our self GREAT on the back of the slave trade and all the… Read more »

Britain is called “Great” by the French to distinguish “Grande Bretagne” from “Bretagne” (Brittany) – scene of the only invasion ever attempted by the Isle of Wight resulting in annihilation at the Battle of St Aubin (the Bretons were fighting the French and they ran away leaving us on our own- plus ca change as the French say). It is nothing to do perceived self image. The… Read more »

Perhaps UK scepticism was well expressed by David Cameron when he said yesterday: “I remember 2003. I was sitting two rows from the back on the Opposition Benches. It was just after my son had been born and he was not well, but I was determined to be here. I wanted to listen to the man who was standing right here (i.e.Bliar) and believe everything that he… Read more »

My friend Ahmed, who is slightly mad due to having his forehead caved in by a rifle butt from one of Saddam’s thugs, reckons that Saddam sent his WMDs over the border to Syria and that’s where they are now. We know he had them because we still have the receipts from when we sold them to him. However I have a theory as to why 2000… Read more »

Most of the national discussion on Syria seems to take it that the only correct reaction on being appalled by what has happened, is to unleash weapons. That if you don’t do that, you don’t care. We cared about Hussein’s (I was never on first name terms with him) slaughter of his population, so what did we do? Killed even more of them, that’s what. Plus many… Read more »
