Great news for Platform One, Foundation Degree in Commercial Music students who thanks to the support from Wightlink Ferries are about to embark on a five-date tour to Holland.
The lucky pupils are given the chance to experience what it’s actually like going ‘on the road’ on a professional tour.
We hear that they’ll be playing at two key festivals in Amsterdam, not to mention other music venues around the city. Nice one!
Peter Pontin, Director at Platform One said “Without the on-going support of Wightlink Ferries we would not be able to deliver the opportunities that we do. Wighlink also support our Friday music industry seminars, as well as residential tours and mainland based gigs that we carry out throughout the year – they are really committed in supporting young Island based musicians”.
This is the fourth year that Platform One students have had the opportunity to take the tour and we’re really pleased to hear that the degree courses in commercial music are going from strength to strength.
It’s not just Island musicians that the course attracts. The reputation for the college has spread to the mainland and the college now boasts students relocating to the Island to study full time here.
Student, Ilana Samuels who relocated to the Island to study at Platform One two years ago, commented, “I am really looking forward to the experience of performing abroad to a new audience and new faces – it is a fantastic opportunity.”
