The Island police have sent us this appeal to help with the knocking down of a cyclist on the Ashey Road near Ryde – Ed.
Police on the Isle of Wight are investigating a suspected road traffic collision that has left a cyclist seriously injured.
He was riding a bicycle downhill on Ashey Road near Ryde at 10.45am approx. on Thursday, July 10 when he slowed down at a traffic ‘pinch point’ to give way to a car travelling in the opposite direction.
The 37-year-old cyclist from the Isle of Wight, who was wearing a helmet and yellow high visibility jacket, came off his bike.
He suffered a broken left arm, fractures to his left hand, and injuries to his mouth and teeth.
The car, which has been described as a red Vauxhall Astra, did not stop, and continued travelling towards Ryde.
The cyclist was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Newport for treatment, and has now been discharged.
Andy Paddock from the Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit said: “The cyclist remains in great pain a week after the collision. He’s been prescribed strong painkilling drugs. His family are angry as they want to know exactly how he suffered his injuries.
“Police are appealing for witnesses to what we believe may have been a collision between a bicycle and a car.
“Officers are particularly keen to hear from two or three women who helped the cyclist whilst he was lying injured on the ground.”
