If you like the throbbing of big machinery, there’s going to be no better place to be than at Cowes this weekend.
Gone are the sails, as the impossibly glamorous P1 Powerboat caravan races into town, in the next stage of its 2007 race calendar.
It’s a great weekend of events including one round the Island race, a number of races around a circuit at Cowes for the powerboat P1 posse. There’s also RIBs, jet skis and thundercats (that you may have seen at Wight Air).
This year’s season started in Valletta, Malta, then passing through Napoli, Italy, and most recently Travemunde, Germany. Now it’s the Island’s chance with up to 100 of Europe’s finest power boats roaring into action.
It’s clearly a very rich wo/mans sport. You’ve not only got be able to afford to buy a ridiculously powerful powerboat; transport it and the support crew around the world, but goodness gracious, you’ve got to pay for all of the fuel!
We’re planning on dropping over there to give you some reports while it’s going on. Tune in for some background article too.
