Prizes Galore At Freshwater Skate Park Re-Launch

Whilst a large majority of the Island will be heading to the coast this Saturday to enjoy the 1,700+ yachts circumnavigating the Island, those who prefer wheels under their feet will be heading to Freshwater Skate Park.

Prizes Galore At Freshwater Skate Park Re-LaunchThe reason? To celebrate a whopping £25,000 upgrade of the skate park.

It’s taken 18 months to complete, initiated by the West Wight Skate Park and with help from Freshwater and Totland Parish Councils, the Isle of Wight Council’s Planning and Community Safety Departments and the Isle of Wight Community Safety Partnership.

Designed by users
We understand that users of the park were involved in the design and layout of the new ramps which resulted in a new half-pipe, grind rail and a “coffin” box.

Project Co-ordinator, Cllr Clive Fleury said “The enthusiasm of the skate park users, of all ages, has made the hard work put in by everyone concerned really worthwhile. I am looking forward to the opening event on Saturday.”

CCTV
Fans of CCTV will be pleased to hear that night-vision cameras will be watching down on their little darlings. Those against constant monitoring won’t be quite so happy.

Wight Trash Competitions
Skating hero of the Island, John Cattle, will be organising competitions through the day, which kicks off at 11am and runs until 3pm.

Wight Trash are generously donating all the prizes.

Bring your skateboard, bikes, blades and scooters.
