Proposed Freshwater development to offer affordable homes and retail space

A planning application seeking outline permission for a mixed use development at Heathfield Farm Camp Site, Freshwater has been opened to public consultation.

The development comprises 57 residential dwellings, 12 residential flats and retail floorspace with associated road infrastructure and parking provisions.

Much-needed affordable homes
The application states that 38 per cent of the proposed residential dwellings will be provided as much-needed affordable homes within the West-Wight area.

The development will follow a rural design aesthetic, “in keeping with the local vernacular to provide a high quality, cohesive addition to the town”.

Replacing a working campsite
Although the site is currently occupied by a working campsite (open throughout the spring / summer months) the site is bordered on all sides by residential developments of varying age and design styles.

The owner and operator of the campsite say they would not be looking to renew their lease for the site beyond its current end date in 2025, at which time the site would become vacant and unmanaged.
