Public comment open on proposed luxury lodge at Isle of Wight’s renowned Rowborough Shoot

New owners of an Isle of Wight game shoot are looking to enhance facilities for its patrons.

A new lodge is proposed at Rowborough Farm, on Bowcombe Road, to create a better shoot day experience for visitors, guests and staff, at the Rowborough and Cheverton Shoot.

The shoot is one of the main ones on the Island and the rights to it have recently been bought.

Planning documents submitted on behalf of the applicant Edmund Bartlett, say the new owners are committed to investing heavily into the shoot, with a high-quality, purpose-designed, shoot lodge.

The statement, by Andrew White Planning Consultancy, says the new lodge could greatly improve the sense of arrival and provide first-class entertaining and catering facilities.

The lodge could have a grand fireplace, seating area and bar, gun racks and drying/changing rooms and have an outside seating area with an external fireplace.

The existing lodge could be used by staff.

Also proposed in the plans is a multi-purpose agricultural building in a more central position to the shoot stands which can be used for shelter or rest breaks, as well as an ‘elevenses hut’.

During the off-season, from February to September, the building would be used for general agricultural storage purposes.

Planning documents say the proposal could provide the shoot with much-need improved facilities and flexibility to enable them to progress to their next chapter of service excellence.
