Public meetings have been planned as opposition mounts against plans for 130 homes to be developed on a site in Camp Road, Freshwater.
The site is allocated for at least 90 homes in the council’s Draft Island Planning Strategy, however, an application for eight dwellings on the same site was rejected by the Isle of Wight council back in 2013.
The applicant had sought pre-planning advice from the council in 2019 for 170 homes, but these new plans for outline planning permission are for 130 dwellings.
Overwhelmingly opposed
The online application currently has three letters of support and 22 letters of objections.
Impact on the rich and diverse wildlife, little or no employment, lack of public transport, concerns about transport infrastructure, drainage, public services and amenities are all raised as objections to the planned development.
Those supporting the application say Freshwater is “crying out for continuous regeneration through housing like this” and that “Population increase requires housing, both affordable and sustainable”.
Two public meetings
The application is currently out for public consultation, closing on 24th September and two public meetings have been organised where residents can hear more about the plans.
These take place on Friday 10th September and Friday 17th September, both from 7pm at Freshwater Parish Hall on Victoria Road.
Have your say
You can view the application, 21/01552/OUT, via the Isle of Wight Council’s planning portal.
The consultation period closes on 24th September, although comments can be lodged with the council right up until a decision has been made.
