Councillor Richard Priest has signed the certificates which will be sent to all pupils who achieved a 100 per cent attendance record for the 2013/14 academic year.
Latest attendance figures show less pupils are missing school, with overall attendance rates at primary schools standing at just over 96 per cent. This is an improvement on the same period last year by around 1.5 percentage points.
Improvements in secondary schools
Across the secondary sector, attendance levels have improved by more than 2.5 percentage points compared to the same period last year, with the overall figure now at over 94 per cent.
Councillor Priest said:
“Over the course of the last year, the council has worked very hard to improve attendance levels, using a range of methods.
“Many of these focus around prevention such as working with children who are at risk of becoming persistently absent. By providing support to them and their parents at an early stage, potential poor attendance can be tackled before it becomes a problem.
“The certificates are a little something to say well done to those pupils who achieved a 100 per cent attendance in the last academic year. We are also delighted to give credit where it is due.
“It took a long time to sign them all, but it is worth it!”
The certificates have now been sent to the pupils.
