This month Quay Arts welcomes three star stand-ups to its Comedy Club on Friday 25th July. Come and hear the warm and witty (and deaf!) Steve Day, the mischievous Maff Brown and the engaging Aussie, Aaron Counter.
Steve Day
Steve Day is a truly unique comedian – warm, witty and engaging whilst dealing with the dilemmas of being a deaf man in a hearing world.
Described by The Guardian as ‘revelatory and very funny’ his stories of multiple children, wearing a suit and the problems caused by not knowing how words are pronounced will have audiences in raptures, and his uplifting tales of overcoming the obstacles in his path will leave crowds feeling inspired.
Steve is a favourite at many venues across the UK and abroad, and is quickly establishing himself as one of the most popular and respected acts on the circuit.
Steve has become a familiar voice on BBC Radio 4, contributing regular to You and Yours, featuring in a half-hour special of No Triumph, No Tragedy and starring alongside Caroline Quentin and Patricia Routledge in The Sound Barrier.
‘A hilarious, hard-of-hearing, heavenly host’ Time Out Comic’s Choice
Maff Brown
Maff has received high praise from fellow comedians Frank Skinner who says that he is ‘one of those comics that doesn’t need to try. Jokes fall out of him like gold coins coming out of a pirate’s chest’ and Bill Bailey who remarked that Maff is a ‘brilliant stand up, with great material’.
Maff is a hard-hitting young comedian who can make a packed room laugh because he is gregarious with excellent delivery and observations. Maff is the founder of the Award Wining Outside the Box Comedy Club in Kingston. Within 3 and half months of the launch, Outside the Box won the prestigious BEST COMEDY VENUE for London from Chortle.
Maff has also been described as a ‘material machine’ by Frank Skinner because he is constantly writing a new 20 mins for his club every Monday.
Aaron Counter
This young Australian has been impressing audiences with his measured, self-assured stage presence and flat-out funny material.
Engaging and quick-witted, Aaron’s intelligent humour is delivered with an acid tongue but tempered with a playful child-like manner. His relaxed and inviting delivery balances nicely against a sometimes acerbic take on modern life.
Aaron has established himself as a regular act at comedy venues throughout the UK. He has performed at the Edinburgh Festival every year since 2003. ‘a quiet confidence and a quick wit’ Chortle
