Prominent businesswoman Rachael Randall has been appointed chair of Ryde Neighbourhood Board.
Rachael, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of the highly successful HTP Apprenticeship College and chair of the Solent Growth Partnership’s business board, was appointed following interviews this week.
She has been serving as interim chair of Ryde Neighbourhood Board since June.
Leading the board
Rachael, who is also a trustee of Island charitable organisation WightAID, said,
“I am really excited about leading the board as it continues working to drive positive change for the residents and businesses of Ryde.
“The Pride in Place money – £19.5 million over the ten years of the initiative – is already beginning to make a difference through the recent small community grants programme and the current grant call for larger projects.
“But while we now have momentum, there is much to do to ensure the town gains maximum benefit from this money. Crucial to that will be working closely with all sections of the community, including seldom-heard voices, residents of all ages, the thriving voluntary and charitable sectors and, of course, our local businesses.
“I look forward to working with board colleagues to drive forward its work in partnership with the wonderful Ryde community. Pride in Place money is for the town and the town has a vital role to play in ensuring this money is spent most effectively and to the greatest benefit.”
MP welcomes appointment
Isle of Wight East Conservative MP and board member Joe Robertson welcomed the appointment.
He said,
“I am delighted that Rachael has been confirmed as the board’s permanent chair.
“She has already made a significant contribution as a board member and has made it very clear she wants us to be more ambitious to deliver for the people of Ryde.
“Part of that involves finding new ways to improve community engagement. As ever, if anyone wishes to share their views about what we can help deliver – they are welcome to contact me direct.”
