React at Wight Rock Bar: Review

Thanks to Roger for his review of new kids on the scene, React, who played at the Wight Rock Bar on th November. Ed

React at Wight Rock Bar: ReviewI decided to go to the Wightrock Bar to see a new cover band that has formed “REACT”. Remember that name ‘cos it could come in handy when wanting to see/hear something good or to book a band.

Knowing the band members who have formed React, I just knew it was going to be good, I wasn’t wrong.

The band has four main artists – Hanna (the boss, well these women think they are) on vocals, Luke on drums and Aaron on guitar, both from, and still performing with Proximity Effect and Adam on bass, ex proximity Effect.

During their two one hour sets, other musicians performed cameo parts. These included; Ben on Sax, a third year Platform One student (I do like a bit of Sax), another Luke on Keys, and Esther on Vocals, both second year Platform One students and Ollie on Vocals, from Proximity Effect.

REACT perform some strong songs such as; Michael Jackson’s Earth Song, Thriller and Smooth Criminal, also, Doobie Brothers Long Train Runnin’, which was great to hear after so many years, and done well.

The main songs that make up their portfolio include such hits of today, like The Noisettes, Taylor Swift, Stereophonics, La Roux and Lilly Allen. Hanna performs the obvious strong vocal parts well and with the rest of the band members, all the songs can be listened to with ease.

The enthusiastic birthday revellers had a treat and stayed to watch the full two sets.

At the end of the final set, more was demanded, so Aaron took command of the extended version of Long Train Runnin’ with all doing solo spots, which kept the appreciative audience charged.

Hanna is one-of -the-best, of a new bread of female vocalists (although she cannot rest, as there are more following-on) and with the backing she has with the rest of the band members, a great night of music is ensured.

REACT are beginning to get function work, with a wedding gig up in London looming. They have material for about two hours and are currently looking for more songs to add to their repertoire, so a busy time. So I will look forward to seeing/hearing REACT again soon.
