Reconditioned bike helps town council tackle their carbon footprint

Ryde Town Council are delighted to be able to announce that they have purchased a reconditioned bicycle from Aspire as part of their drive to become increasingly environmentally aware and to take steps to reduce our carbon footprint.

The bike will be used by facilities staff throughout the year for short journeys throughout Ryde. There are times when the council need to use a van to transport goods and deliveries, but the bike offers a genuine alternative at other times and could be the first of many if the pilot programme proves successful.

Lilley: A fantastic initiative
Mayor Michael Lilley stated,

“This is a fantastic initiative to help the environment and to support a wonderful local charity.

“Aspire do outstanding work and their refurbished bike project is one that we are thrilled to support.”

Dixon: The perfect time to be looking for sustainable transportation
Shay Dixon of Ryde Town Council is one of the team who will be using the bike,

“With COP26 recently ending and Ryde hosting a stage of the cycling Tour of Britain next year this is the perfect time to be looking for sustainable transportation.

“Getting from allotment to allotment on this bike is excellent for getting fresh air and exercise as well as a great step in protecting the environment.”

Nicholas: Always looking for unwanted bikes that can be put to good use
Trevor Nicholas, Chief Executive Officer of Aspire said,

“We are really pleased to supply a reconditioned bike to Ryde Town Council. Our bike project and the great volunteers involved show how it’s possible to reinvigorate unwanted items, share our expertise and even raise funds for other initiatives that benefit our community.

“We are always looking for unwanted bikes that can be put to good use by our experienced technicians and with Christmas just around the corner it’s a great time to donate so that someone else can benefit.”
