The morning after the night before and the remnants of the former Gaiety Amusement Arcade are laid bare for all to see.
With the smell of smoke still lingering in the air, the ferocious blaze on Ventnor’s seafront on Tuesday night meant little sleep for those who live nearby.
The emergency services received a call at 17.55 to reports of a fire on the site of the former amusement arcade, which is in the process of being slowly demolished in preparation for redevelopment work.
Mainland support needed
Pumping appliances attending the fire came from Ventnor, Shanklin, Sandown, Ryde, Newport, Cowes, East Cowes, Freshwater and the mainland, plus Aerial Ladder Platform from Ryde, Water Carriers from Ventnor and Freshwater and an Incident Command vehicle from Newport.
Fire crews remain on site this morning (Wednesday), with parts of the debris smoldering.
The Fire Service say an investigation will commence today to try and establish the cause.

Our thanks to Lucy Boynton-Jones and Chris Jones for their shots taken last night from the west of the site.
Lucy told News OnTheWight that the south-westerly wind was driving the flames and smoke in the opposite direction, hence them being able to get decent shots of the fire taking hold. Although it looks like people are standing very close, they are some distance away.
