The Isle of Wight council is proposing that the cost of replacing all lost bus passes will increase from £5 to £10.
All bus passes – scholars term tickets or free passes for senior citizens or people with disability – would be included.
The Isle of Wight Council says that the charge for school children hasn’t changed for at least twenty years.
800 replacement passes a year
Currently around 300 replacement school passes and 500 replacement passes for the senior citizens and people with disability are reissued a year.
The council admits that they haven’t carried out formal consultation with user groups on this proposed increase, but points to a Jan 2009 survey of 173 local authorities where 40% of them charged £5 and 35% charged more than £5.
£8,000 in fees
The council projects that if this scheme goes ahead – it’s due to be decided under delegated powers before 20 April – an additional £4,000 in fees will be generated, bring the expected total to £8,000.
