Isle of Wight council say they’ve received reports that a number of sandbags have been stolen from addresses in East Cowes.
In response to the news, Isle of Wight police said,
“This is not only this morally unacceptable, it is THEFT.
“Please let’s work together to keep people and property safe over this period of adverse weather.”
Councillor Karl Love, the Isle of Wight councillor for East Cowes, told News OnTheWight,
“People have been coming to East Cowes from all over the Island, including Gunville and Godshill, to collect sandbags.
“Please only take what you need. We understand there is a great need across the whole Island and IWC and Island Roads are working hard to restock.”
A list of where sandbags can be collected from can be found on the council’s website.
