Residents in parts of Sandown cautioned as flood risk persists

The Environment Agency have issued another update for their Eastern Yar Flood Alert.

Residents are still warned to be prepared. The Flood Alert reads:

The water levels throughout the Eastern Yar valley continue to fall slowly. In the past 48 hours, only small amounts of rain have fallen. The levels at Alverstone continue to fall. At Langbridge and Alverstone, we are not expecting any further impacts and the river will return to normal here within the next 24 hours.

At Sandown, levels remain high, but are very slowly falling. Flooding of Golf Links Road and Moreton Common Road, Sandown, is ongoing, and ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high.

Today (30/04/2024) virtually no rain is forecast. From Wednesday (01/05/2024) through to Friday (03/05/2024) more unsettled weather is expected, bringing further heavy rainfall (up to 20mm is forecast each day).

If this rainfall affects the catchment, the river will maintain its responsive nature and levels could rise. We will continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Avoid walking or driving through flood water.
