Figures for unemployed claimants are out today and we see another rise in the number of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) claimants on the Isle of Wight.
According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of unemployed claimants on the Island rose to 3,136 in October 2011.
This is a hike of 169 since September, which showed 2,967 unemployed claimants and up 312 from October 2010 (2,824).
Last month’s figures showed 98 less people on Job Seekers Allowance than October 2009 (3,234).
3.5% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – nearly one percent more than the rest of the South East (2.6%), but nearly half a percent less than the whole of the UK (3.8%).
