The latest number of patients being treated at St Mary’s hospital being treated for Covid-19 has risen to 27, with three requiring mechanical ventilation.
The rise was revealed in today’s (Friday) figures on the Government’s Covid Dashboard.
Positive tests
The daily number of positive Covid tests on the Isle of Wight was reported as 259 – it hasn’t been this high since Boxing Day.
The weekly seven day rate of positive Covid-19 tests for the Isle of Wight is 1,209 – a rate per 100,000 of population of 857.45.
The cumulative total since the pandemic began now stands at 23,498 – a rate per 100,000 population of 16,665.25.

Only get tested on the Island
Residents are reminded that tests are available for those with Covid-19 symptoms and to ensure you are tested on the Isle of Wight.
The main symptoms of Coronavirus are:
- a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
- Most people with Coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms. Book via the NHS.
Delta variant
Symptoms of the Delta variant have been described in the ZOE Symptom App as:
- Headaches
- Sore throats
- Runny noses
- Fever
Omicron variant
Symptoms of the Omicron variant have been described in the ZOE Symptom App as:
- Runny nose
- Headache
- Fatigue (mild or severe)
- Sneezing
- Sore throat
