The Environment Agency have updated the Flood Alert for Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.
Residents are advised to “be prepared”.
The Flood Alert issued just before 2pm Friday reads:
The water level at Sandown on the Eastern Yar is high and rising. In the last 24 hours, 12mm of rainfall has been recorded at Knighton.
Due to the additional rainfall, the river levels at Sandown have begun to slowly rise again.
Minor impacts could continue at Golf Links Road and Moreton Common Road, Sandown.
Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high. Further rainfall is forecast to affect the area on Saturday morning (02/03/2024), with up to 30mm possible.
This additional rainfall will maintain the responsive nature of the Eastern Yar catchment, and could cause minor flooding impacts at Alverstone and Langbridge. Property flooding is currently not expected.
We will continue to monitor the forecast and ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Avoid walking or driving through flood water.
