With the bank holiday weekend fast approaching, we thought you’d appreciate a heads-up on the weather forecast.
Thanks to John Marr from Vectis 4×4 Response for this update from the Met Office. It gives an indication of what to expect over the next few days. Be aware this is for the entire South region, not just the Isle of Wight. For more detailed report see Isle of Wight Weather Forecast.
Friday 24th August
A cloudy day with occasional light rain at first, possibly clearing for a while during the morning and early afternoon before a more organised band of rain spreads northeast during the afternoon and evening.
The rain should not be too heavy and is not expected to cause any problems with respect to flooding.
Saturday 25th August
A generally cloudy dry with showers or longer spells of rain. Showers becoming heavy at times with the risk of thunder. 20-40 mm isolated 60 mm possible during the day.
Strong W-SW winds are also likely with gales possible along the south coast. Risk of 50 mph gusts in coastal areas.
The Met Office have issued a Yellow Alert to highlight the risk of heavy rain and strong winds. The FFC Flood Guidance Statement is also Yellow mainly for the risk of surface water flooding but also with a low risk of flooding for fast reacting catchments. The alert indicates a moderate probability of a low-moderate impact event.
Sunday 26th August
The rain and showers will gradually clear to the east during Sunday morning although showers possibly continuing in eastern areas into the afternoon. The wind will ease by Sunday morning.
Monday 27th August
A ridge of high pressure will move east across the area giving a generally fine day although cloud will encroach from the west during the day with the possibility of rain during the evening.
