Update: Island Roads tweeted at 5.09pm “Victoria Avenue, Shanklin has not been reopened as planned. We’re working hard to get this open as soon as possible. We’ll keep you updated.”
There’s been ongoing roadworks in Shanklin over the last month or so, so OnTheWight got in touch with Island Roads to find out when it would be opening again – to hear some good news.
It is anticipated that Victoria Avenue, Shanklin will reopen at 16:30 today (Wednesday).
It won’t be fully back to normal quite yet as they added, “Temporary traffic lights will remain in the area while the final phase of the work is undertaken.”
Re-surfacing to follow – overnight
The other part of the works due to happen there is the resurfacing of a large section of the main road through Shanklin, which will occur after the Easter holiday period – at the end of April.
This is due to happen overnight for approximately ten nights.
Island Roads tells OnTheWight, “All affected businesses and properties are in the process of being notified directly.”
Article edits: Headline changed from ‘Road re-opening in Shanklin this afternoon’ to ‘Road re-opening in Shanklin delayed (updated)’ after Island Roads announced the road would not be reopened after all.
