Police have confirmed that a robbery took place last night (Tuesday) in Ryde.
The Co-operative shop in Somerset Road, Ryde was subject to the attack which saw staff and a customer injured by the assailant.
Police say,
“At about 10.10pm a man entered the shop and demanded money from the tills. He jumped the counter and assaulted three members of staff. He made off with £80 in cash.
“One of the staff members was treated at St Mary’s Hospital for a cut to one of his eyes.”
Description of suspect
The suspect was described as:
- White Male
- Mid 30s
- 5’ 7-8” tall
- Stocky Build
- Tribal tattoo on his lower arm
- He was wearing a black balaclava, black round neck t-shirt with arms exposed and green / dark coloured trousers
Police say they believe this may be linked to two similar robberies that took place on the Island in February; one happened in Alldays, Sandown, on 1st February and the other took place at Southern Co-Operative in Shanklin on 17th February.
