A world-famous music impresario, who lived for many years on the Isle of Wight, has passed away.
Robert Stigwood, who managed bands such as Cream and the Bee Gees, owned and lived at Barton Manor Estate in Whippingham for many years, until he sold it in 2005.
A creative genius
The death of the 81 year old was announced via Facebook by his godson, Spencer Gibb.
He referred to Robert as, “A creative genius with a very quick and dry wit” and thanked him for “his kindness to me over the years as well as his mentorship to my family”.
An extensive biography
Hailing from Australia, Robert was one of the most successful figures in the entertainment world in the 1960s and 1970s.
As well as managing well-known groups such as Cream and The Bee Gees, he was also involved with theatrical productions, including Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar.
He was also involved in the hugely successful film, Saturday Night Fever.
