Thanks to VB friend and contributor Roger Regular for his review of this recent gig at the Wight Rock Bar in Ryde. Ed
React, who always perform strong songs, generated another great night, but first they had support from Poppy & Jake at the Wight Rock Bar.
I had not seen these before but just caught the last part of their sound-check. “Hmmm, this sounds promising” thought I.
Well Poppy & Jake began their set with some great vocals (we are getting spoiled with so many great female vocals here on the Island).
Every song was performed with ease and a pleasure on the ears. They understand each other on-stage, which helped to ensure their set went smoothly. This was a great start to the night, with Poppy & Jake performing refreshing new covers such as: Mercy – Duffy, You Got The Love – Florence and the Machine, Pokerface – Lady Gaga, Better Together – Jack Johnson and Mountains – Biffy Clyro and more.
My favourite was their version of Pokerface or was it – You Got The Love, I can’t decide.
Anyway, the whole set was good. Poppy & Jake will grow and grow as they extend their list of songs. I would recommend seeing Poppy & Jake if you get a chance, you will not be disappointed.

The band has four main artists – Hanna on vocals, Luke on drums and Aaron on guitar, both from, and still performing with Proximity Effect and Adam on bass, ex proximity Effect.
During their two one-hour sets; Ollie performed a cameo part, he also is the vocalist for Proximity Effect.
With their sets being lively and energetic (including their fantastic
followers) they need two good stable instruments to keep things tight and together; they have this with Luke on drums and Adam (Tabner) on Bass, allowing the band to be in-control of the burst-of-energy with their ever increasing bank of songs.
React perform some strong songs such as; Doobie Brothers Long Train Runnin’, which was great to hear after so many years, and done well.
The main songs that make up their portfolio include such hits, like: Valerie – Amy Winehouse, Hands Down – Dashboard Confessional, Apologise – Timbaland, Standing In The Way Of Control – Gossip and Kings of Leon, The Noisettes, Taylor Swift, Stereophonics, La Roux, Lilly Allen, Alesha Dixon, Maroon 5 and many more impressive tracks.
This band is fast becoming a favourite around the music scene.
