Jacob Rees-Mogg

Jacob Rees-Mogg visited Vestas on the Isle of Wight today (update 2)

Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, The Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, visited Vestas on the Isle of Wight today (Thursday).

With news that the CEO of Ofgem will be making a visit to the Island to discuss the issues of restricted energy supply to and from the Island, hopefully this issue was discussed with the Government’s Cabinet member, Rees-Mogg, today.

Redundant power station
As reported by News OnTheWight on Wednesday, the Kingston Power Station which doesn’t even provide power for the Isle of Wight, is taking up one of only three cables between the Island and Mainland and used just a few hours a year to provide occasional back-up for the Mainland.

Asked to switch off connectivity
The limitation on the use of the three major electricity cables (one must always be kept free as a back-up) means a cap on development of solar farms etc and sometimes, the leader of the council Lora Peacey-Wilcox says, the Island is asked to switch off the connectivity.

Let’s hope the Government’s cabinet member with responsibility for Energy listens and hears the concerns of the Isle of Wight.

No contact with IWC
At today’s Isle of Wight council Cabinet meeting it was confirmed by Cllr Jonathan Bacon and Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox that neither Jacob Rees-Mogg, nor his office, made any contact with the Isle of Wight council.

Cllr Bacon questioned whether the Government take seriously the issues we have on the Island.
