Ryde Academy student, Georgia Holmes, and school first aider, Michael Hine, represented the Isle of Wight St John Ambulance Service at the Hampshire Civic Event to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, which was held at Winchester Cathedral on Sunday 24 April.
“I felt honoured”
Georgia, age 16, has been a volunteer with St John Ambulance for eight years,
“I felt honoured to be chosen to represent the Island at the service. It was a good day out and definitely one I will remember.”
“It was a pleasure”
Michael is the first aider at Ryde Academy and also a volunteer for St John Ambulance.
“It was an honour to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Queen at Winchester Cathedral. As a volunteer in St John Ambulance I was especially proud to be able to celebrate the birthday of our Sovereign Head. It was also a pleasure to be able to include one of our young volunteers in this celebration.“
Giving young people a chance
St John Ambulance believes every young person should have the opportunity to learn basic lifesaving skills in a fun, safe and supportive environment. Cadets, who are aged from ten to 17 years old, learn a huge range of important life skills, including first aid, as they work towards their Grand Prior Award – the highest award a Cadet can achieve.
