The Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight has written to Aspire Ryde to thank them for the work undertaken during the last year of Coronavirus lockdowns.
The letter was presented by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Dr Nicholas England last week.
Dr England also got to meet some of the volunteers who had taken part in delivering prescriptions, shopping for people and those involved in providing food and meals for others.
Nicholas: So many people stepped up to help
Chief Executive Trevor Nicholas said,
“It is wonderful to see the work of our staff and volunteers recognised in this way. So many people stepped up to help and the whole effort has gone on for much longer than anyone anticipated at the start.
“We hope we are through the worst of things now and it’s time to reflect on what we and so many others across the Island have achieved.”
Princess Beatrice
To mark the occasion, Aspire Ryde volunteer Julie Croyden dressed as Princess Beatrice, Daughter of Queen Victoria and former Governor of the Isle of Wight.
The numbers
During the last year Aspire Ryde have delivered 1,200 food parcels, cooked 2,300 meals for people, made around 7,800 deliveries of shopping and prescriptions and managed over 14,500 hours of volunteer time.
