Thanks to Michaela for news of a call-out by Ryde Inshore Rescue. In her own words. Ed
Ryde Inshore Rescue were paged at 1900hrs on Wednesday 25th May to reports of a capsized jetski with three persons in the water off Ryde.
Within fourteen minutes Ryde Rescue 1 was on scene between Ryde Pier and Ryde Harbour (in the Hovercraft channel!) and found three adults and two children who were all in difficulty.
Good Samaritan gets in trouble too
Another boat had gone to the assistance of the adult and two children who had come off of the jetski, but found themselves in trouble when the line they were attempting to use to tow the craft fouled on their prop. They had managed to pull the children out of the water and in to their craft.
Ryde Rescue 1 recovered two adults from the water and then transferred all casualties, who were now very cold, to the lifeboat. The casualty vessel was put under tow and taken to Ryde Harbour. A passing rib towed in the jetski.
Luckily all concerned were wearing buoyancy aids showing the importance of being prepared when you set out on such trips.
