Last weekend, we published details of the financial compensation that two of the people involved in the raid on Benzie, Cowes had to pay.
One of them, Oliver Mazirel, had to pay a compensation order of £100 to Ryde Library. Strange we thought – we couldn’t think of the link between an armed raid in Cowes and the Library in Ryde.
Various wags commented that it might be that he’s taken a book out from the library before he was sentenced and the £100 was an estimate of the overdue fine he would be facing when he was released from prison.
Mystery solved
Well, we’ve now got to the bottom of it, thanks to the Hampshire Police.
When Oliver Mazirel was sentenced for the robbery, he was also sentenced for a burglary at Ryde Library, hence the compensation order.
Doesn’t appear that the two crimes are within the same universe, does it?
How was there that much cash at the library? Mazirel’s break-in had been in the lead up to Christmas and he’d swiped the cash for staff Christmas dinner!
Rightly-named VB commenter, Oracle, had it sussed it out correctly.
