Ryde rowers to represent Association at last coastal event

This in from Steve at Ryde Rowing Club. In his own words. Ed

As the Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club prepare to compete at the last Coastal event of the season – the South Coast Rowing Championships, being hosted by Deal Rowing Club, on Saturday, 14th September, the Club has received an unexpected call-up for their Senior Ladies Four to represent the Association.

They will join Ryde’s Hants & Dorset ARA Championship winning Men’s Coastal Junior Four, who had already been selected to represent the Association, to compete in the Championship events, where the best crews from the three South Coast Rowing Associations compete for the South Coast Champions title in each status.

One of the three South Coast Rowing Associations – the West of England ARA – covering Devon and Cornwall – has failed to select their two representative crew in the Senior Ladies Fours event and this triggers a South Coast Council Rule that allows the remaining two South Coast Rowing Associations to select an additional representative crew – and the Ryde Senior Ladies have been asked by the Hants & Dorset ARA to accept this slot to represent the Association.

The crew of Sophie Brown, Hayley Spall, Lou Maidment and Maddie Dunn with Sam Brown coxing, showed good for at the beginning and end of the season, but were plagued by injury in between, have accepted this honour and will switch from the open event where they were entered.

They will become the 37th crew from Ryde Rowing Club to represent the Association.
