Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club’s Men’s Coastal Junior Four of James Cleary, Stephen Johnson, Ollie Gove and Adam Edwards with Max Reeve coxing claimed their seventh win of the season on Saturday (10th August) to secure the Hants & Dorset ARA Championship and guaranteed selection to represent the Association at the South Coast Rowing Championships in Deal, in September.

This is the Club’s forty-second Hants & Dorset Championship and will be the 36th time the Club has represented the Association.

After their season long rivalry with Lymington it was a relatively easy win on Saturday – as they won their heat with ease before taking on Lymington and four other crews in the final – where they had three clear lengths at the finish having led for almost all the race.

Clubs Men’s Novice
There was also an excellent performance from the Clubs Men’s Novice crew of – Callum Lockhart, Will Ford, Isaac Cornish and James Smith – coxed by Mick Jenner in the heat and Max Reeve in the final – who finished third in their heat to qualify for their first final where they they surpassed themselves finishing second to Island rivals and one of the pre-race favourites – Newport – as the Island Club’s dominated the event.

Strong performance from Coastal Junior Ladies four
There was also a strong performance from the Coastal Junior Ladies four of Steph Kissick, Charlotte Price, Gemma Smith and Alicia Stokes with Mick Jenner coxing, who missed out on a place in the final by the narrowest of margins, finishing 4th in their heat.

The Ryde Ladies Senior Four of Sophie Brown, Hayley Spall, Lou Maidment and Maddie Dunn with Max Reeve coxing once again, are still struggling to recover from the injuries that have blighted their season – but they produced an improved performance to finish in 4th place in their final.
