Readers will remember the appeal for the missing collie/lurcher cross named Charlie.
He disappeared on Friday 18th October 2013 at the start of a walk with his owner Carol Jones on Stenbury Down.
Come Home Charlie
A huge campaign was launched, appealing to Islanders to help find Charlie and over the following months, he was apparently spotted on several occasions across the south of the Island.
Sad news came to light on Saturday (15th Feb), the day before a large search was planned, when Charlie’s owner, Carol, announced that she’d received news from the Island coordinator of Country Watch.
Charlie found dead
Carol had been told a man had come forward to say he’d found Charlie dead on Stenbury Down two days after he went missing in October. He’d apparently given Charlie a burial and was able to produce his collar.
Carol said,
“As soon as ground conditions allow, Charlie’s body will be exhumed and returned to me. This may take several days, so I would ask everybody to please be patient a bit longer before I can confirm that Charlie is finally home. I have also received his collar and confirm it is Charlie’s.”
Our thoughts go to Carol at this sad time. Her determination to not give up but continue searching for Charlie has been admired by many, indeed she’s received a huge amount of support through the Facebook campaign and beyond.
