The Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Board is looking for a local resident to join it as a ‘lay member’ to help build closer ties with the community.
The voluntary role involves working with Island organisations to improve the lives of children and young people.
What is the Safeguarding Children Board?
The Safeguarding Children Board is a multi-agency independent board which agrees how services and professionals should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. It brings together representatives from all agencies involved in safeguarding children; this includes the local authority, police, primary care trust, probation, youth offending service and the voluntary sector.
The board, led by Independent Chair Pam Robinson, is looking for an Island resident with close ties to local community organisations and an interest in keeping children safe from harm. The person should have the confidence to challenge professionals on the way they work and be prepared to attend meetings as required, approximately six per year.
Two year appointment
The appointment will last for two years although subject to regular review. The position is not open to those employed by any agency represented on the board in the last 12 months.
