Thanks to Lisa for details of this fundraising effort last weekend. Ed
On Saturday 16 February, the largest gathering of Salsa dancers on the Isle of Wight since last summer, raised £319 for Ryde Inshore Rescue, as part of the independent lifeboats ‘Go Orange’ appeal to support independent lifeboat stations.
Event organisers said they wanted to support a local charity, and since one of their regular dancers is a member of the lifeboat’s crew it seemed a natural choice to help them raise money.
Over 60 dancers
Crew members from the Appley-based independent lifeboat station along with 60 other dancers, attended the charity dance night, organised by Isle of Wight Salsa, where guest instructor, Portsmouth based Sylwester Matuszewski, taught the Rueda style of salsa.
The event, held at The Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Fishbourne, introduced beginners to the salsa style of dancing, whilst more experienced dancers learnt some new moves to incorporate into their routines.
“Thank you to everyone involved”
Co-organiser of the evening, Lisa Gordon, said “It was a really fun evening, Sylwester’s lessons were amazing, the atmosphere was electric, and we raised money for a worthwhile charity, what a great night! Thank you to everyone involved.”
