Sandown and Shanklin Lifeboat Sea Trials Successful

In just under two weeks time, Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat will be launching their newest addition to the fleet at a naming ceremony for their new Atlantic 21 Inshore Lifeboat.

Sandown and Shanklin Independent LifeboatThe team tell us that sea trials took place over the weekend, with the lifeboat trialled in Sandown Bay, Whitecliff Bay, Shanklin Bay and Ventnor Bay.

The new lifeboat also shadowed the current lifeboat (Grey) on a shout at Wheelers Bay in Ventnor, but was not operational at the time. We’re pleased to hear that the boat passed with flying colours.

Official naming ceremony
The naming ceremony takes place on Saturday 3rd September at the Sandown and Shanklin Lifeboat station. Starting at 1pm, there’ll be a short service and blessing by father Jim Izzard, followed with the naming taking place by the High Sheriff, Mrs Susie Sheldon.

After the ceremony there’ll be a Search & Rescue display by the new lifeboat and the Coastguard helicopter ‘104’.

The event will be a great chance to see the new lifeboat and to meet the crew.
