Whilst at the official opening of The Fort, Sandown’s new skate park, The Sandown Lions made a very generous presentation of a £1,000 cheque to the skate park.
At the event, as well as chatting to Sandown Mayor, Ian Ward, and Cllr Val Stephenson who spearheaded the project, we caught up with Keith Rogers from the Sandown Lions after the presentation to find out more.
Keith told us that through various fundraising activities, the Lions had managed to raise £1,000 which they wanted to donate towards the upkeep of the skate park.
As many will already know, the main objective of the Lions is to support as much of the community as possible.
The Lions Community Centre helps by providing a place for local groups and clubs to meet. They’re also responsible for many fund raising activities that take place, resulting in being able to provide financial help to many members of the community. Examples that Keith gave us ranged from helping to fund ice hockey training for a talented youngster, as well as funding medical emergencies where necessary.
After Christmas the Lions will be celebrating their 30th charter year, congratulations to them we say!
