Supporters of the Save our Ice Rink campaign will be holding a Rally outside Ryde Arena (Planet Ice) on Sunday from 3pm.
They urge Islanders to go along and show their support for the campaign to keep the venue open.
Although the venue is used by residents from across the Isle of Wight, Planet Ice said it had been losing money for the last seven years. Its closure on 25th March was announced earlier this week.
Festival organiser puts his hat in the ring
Promoter of the multi-million pound Isle of Wight Festival, John Giddings, who also has a home in Ryde, said he’d donate £1,000 and suggested that if every Islander gave £1, the debts could be cleared and the venue saved.
His pledge was met with a positive response from those on Facebook and the suggestion of setting up a CIC and running the arena in the same way as the Waterside Community Pool was just one of those that followed.
The petition
The online petition to save the ice rink has now attracted 8,773 signatures.
