Well done to berth holders at Dean and Reddyhoff marinas across the UK, who last summer put their hands in their pockets in aid of the UKSA and helped raise a whopping £5,000 for this very worthy Isle of Wight charity.
At the London International Boat Show this week, a rather large cheque was presented to the UKSA by Dean & Reddyhoff Marinas.
The money was raised last year at Dean and Reddyhoff’s charity summer parties held at East Cowes Marina, Haslar Marina and Weymouth Marina, along with contributions from Dean & Reddyhoff itself.
UKSA tell us that they’ll be using the £5,000 to buy a brand new Wayfarer dinghy which will join their main dinghy fleet.
Every year thousands of individuals benefit from the courses that UKSA offer. Last year over 6,000 lucky people gained experience in sailing activities and personal development through the charity, including young people at risk of exclusion and students with disabilities.
Jon Ely, Chief Executive of UKSA said:
“We are delighted to receive this new Wayfarer from Dean & Reddyhoff and its berth holders. It means a lot to UKSA that our work with young people is recognised by those working in and participating in leisure yachting and boating in the UK. Augmenting our dinghy fleet with this new Wayfarer means that we can provide further opportunities over the coming years for young people from all backgrounds to discover their own abilities, be inspired by new challenges and develop skills for life. Thank you.”
James Beaver, Operations Director at Dean & Reddyhoff Marinas, added
“I would like to say a big thank you to all Dean & Reddyhoff berth holders for their support. Thanks to their donations we are able to help thousands of deserving young people learn and develop through the sport of sailing. We are delighted be working with UKSA in achieving this.”
We understand that Dean & Reddyhoff are in the process of gearing up for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games with the current construction of a new 600-berth marina in Portland Harbour which will act as one of the host venues.
