A woman from Newport faces a six year jail sentence after admitting that she stabbed her partner in December 2013 with a kitchen knife.
A report in the CP today reveals the details heard at the IW Crown Court last week (20th June).
The court heard that after the couple had been drinking, the woman texted a former partner, resulting in an argument. She then left the property, a garden chalet in Newport, but later returned with a kitchen knife striking her partner and cutting his finger.
“Serious wound”
It was reported she then stabbed him in the abdomen, resulting in a “serious” one inch puncture wound and heavy bleeding. The court heard the knife had penetrated two-and-a-half inches into his abdomen.
According to the report, the woman told police that her partner must’ve fallen on the knife, however, in court she admitted a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
“Complex needs”
“A distressing history” and “complex needs” were cited by her defence, Charles Couch, who said,
“It is obvious from the medical report this has been a difficult relationship.”
He went on to say,
“She accepts the relationship is now over.”
The woman has been jailed for six years.
